To divide Integers, you will deal with the numbers seperate from the signs Here is the strategy.
When you divide two Integers, use your knowledge of multiplication to work backwards. Use the exact same rules for signs as you use for multiplication.
In the section that handled Positive x Positive, you learned that it was necessary to memorize information in a table in order to quickly multiply numbers. That same table will assist you as you divide positive numbers. Use the information in the table to follow along.
Example #1: 12 ÷ 3
Using your knowledge of handling Positive x Positive numbers, 12 ÷ 3 = 4, because 4 x 3 = 12.
Example #2: -56 ÷ 7
Since 7 x -8 = -56 from section Negative x Positive, you can see that -56 ÷ 7 = -8.
Example #4: -15 ÷ -5
The strategy for dealing with Negative x Negative tells you the answer is a positive. Since 15 ÷ 5 = 3, you know that -15 ÷ -5 = 3.
